Getting Ready for Your No-Scalpel Vasectomy

Products to have on hand

Starting about two weeks before the no-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) procedure, do not take any aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medication. These thin the blood somewhat and increase the risk of bleeding.

  • Wash your scrotum for three nights before your procedure with an anti-bacterial wash to reduce the risk of infection.
  • Although it is not essential, for our better visibility we recommend that you shave from the base of the penis and along the front of your scrotum.
  • Wear an athletic supporter to the office.
  • Wear comfortable clothing. Choose pants that you won't mind getting iodine on after the no-scalpel vasectomy procedure. We also recommend you wear a T-shirt.
  • Eat a good breakfast! You will feel much more comfortable during the NSV procedure.
  • Plan to arrive a little earlier for your appointment. You should give yourself an hour from the time you walk in the doctor's office to when you leave.
